Do you dream about having the perfect smile? Correctly aligned teeth not only increase a person’s self-esteem, but also improve oral hygiene. Crooked teeth, however, can lead to gum disease and chipped teeth. As adults, we are less likely to consider orthodontic treatment with metal braces. Clear aligners are orthodontic devices that are a great alternative to traditional braces. Aligners are transparent and removable plastic trays that adjust teeth over time by guiding them into correct position to achieve proper bite. The purpose of aligners is to straighten crooked and crowded teeth.

The best time to discuss clear aligner options is during your routine dental exam. Since clear aligners are recommended for mild and moderate cases, more complex cases may still need to be treated with traditional metal braces. All restorative dental work should be completed before getting scanned for clear aligners. After all needed information is gathered, it will take about 4 weeks to design and fabricate your custom trays. Before you receive these trays, some modifications to your teeth will be required. Tooth-colored buttons will be attached to your teeth to help aligners apply necessary pressure to guide the teeth into the right position. During this appointment, you will receive your first set of clear trays. Clear aligners should be worn at least 22 hours a day. The trays can be removed during eating, drinking, and brushing teeth. You will receive different sets of customized trays during your regular check-ups throughout the treatment.
